That was excellent, Marg! I thought your intonation was quite good – that’s one of my biggest struggles. I also think that we tend to think our own intonation is worse than it really is. Although I’m pretty sure mine’s pretty bad…
That looks like a nice mandolin too – do you play mandolin as well?

Strum Machine has a subscription cost but it’s not much I don’t think. Plays background to lots and lots of tune.

Thanks Michael and Kate! Yes, sometimes in the middle of a tune I’ll start thinking about everything that’s going on and when that happens, I fall off the train!! Starting at age 7 would have been great, I just wish I had started before age 68! As it is, I’ve only been fiddling for about 7 months now.

Great work, Great improvement on your tone and playing the notes fully. That’s what I love about videos everyone posts after a focus on practising. It’s inspiring. Thanks for posting.

Good on you Mary, that sounds like quite a list. Looking forward to hearing those tunes if you post them. Enjoy your fiddle again and I hope you are feeling much better.

Working on Liberty as one in my Heritage Set (tunes my great-grandfather played in the hills of Kentucky). Got to memorize it next.

This is my 1st attempt at filming myself for Fiddlehed. Inspired by others, I felt I should contribute too, and become more connected to this warm community of supportive fiddlers. My intonation needs more work especially sliding up to A, and I need to get some help with the camera focus, but it was fun to do once I mustered up the courage. I hope…[Read more]

Very nice recording and playing, Mary. I’m impressed with your intonation – mine falls apart so quickly when I try new tunes. Thanks for posting!

Glad you’re able to pick up the fiddle again! Sounds like you have a good plan. Double stops are doing my head in!

After being away recouping from surgery and physical restriction –
Reviewed tunes I had learned earlier – Rd to Lisdonverna, Sweet Beulah Land, Swallowtail Jig, Southwind, Soldier’s Joy – Level 2.
Enjoyed flipping through Jason’s Fiddlehed Tune Book and just playing again.Want to establish a practice routine (which will be fun) to include new…[Read more]

Nice job Keith – love those slides and double stops. Great rhythm too. I know what you mean about so many things to remember. When I try to focus on double stops, it seems like everything else falls apart. I wish I’d started playing when I was 7. Oh well, better late than never!

Well done, Mary! That was a great effort and I reckon you’ve improved so much from when you first posted. I get terrified by public performances and shake so much that I couldn’t do a solo like that.
