Hi Katrina,
Thanks for your feedback, and it’s good to know there’s other Australian fiddleheds out there. I live at Coolangatta, but not the one near Brisbane. We’re in a little rural area near Shoalhaven Heads 2 and a half hours south of Sydney NSW. Our Coolangatta got it’s name from the indigenous Mount Cullunghutti. -

Kate your playing sounds spot on! Notes are clear and great intonation, nice bounce to the rhythm too. It’s good to read how others are approaching their practice and I think Jason’s methods and encouragement are hugely supportive.
Thanks for posting the link to the Drifters as well, I love how they gradually build from a simple tune to play…[Read more] -

Wow, only 7 months Keith? You must have done some serious practice to reach this level! Great slides and double stops, and I think just the right amount. Enough to add interest without being too much of a good thing. I started working on this tune last night, struggling with the separate 1, slur 3 bowing in module 2.1, but will keep working on it.…[Read more]

Great Mary! You really kept the pulse going with Strum Machine.
I like your idea of making a heritage set, a nice way to honour your great grandfather. Mine was a fiddler too, who migrated to Australia from Scotland. I would love to know the tunes he played as a dance band musician. Unfortunately all I have is a very old tin photo of him and his…[Read more] -

This looks great Owen, so organised! You’ve inspired me to have another go at keeping a record of my practice, just watched Jason’s practice too and can see how productive his method can be if I can steer myself in that direction.
Started to write down my practice each day, but sometimes got carried away practising and didn’t leave time to write…[Read more] -

That’s great Michael, you’d be in demand at sessions with your mix of instruments to choose from, and yeah, there’s something about playing music with your adult children isn’t there? Really special to be able to pass on the love of music to them. I play with my son too, when he comes home, he lives 3 hours away. Last visit, he came to a session…[Read more]

Thanks Keith and Michael for your lovely, encouraging comments. I have a long, long way to go, the New Year meant stepping from the beginner course to intermediate for me, Hobart’s Transformation being the 1st tune, I know there’s some serious work ahead of me now.
Yes Michael, I have struggles with intonation too, good and bad days, but I love…[Read more]

Good on you Mary, that sounds like quite a list. Looking forward to hearing those tunes if you post them. Enjoy your fiddle again and I hope you are feeling much better.

This is my 1st attempt at filming myself for Fiddlehed. Inspired by others, I felt I should contribute too, and become more connected to this warm community of supportive fiddlers. My intonation needs more work especially sliding up to A, and I need to get some help with the camera focus, but it was fun to do once I mustered up the courage. I hope…[Read more]

Stumbled upon the practice session yesterday when browsing the site so hadn’t prepared anything.
– scales, major, dorian and pentatonic and letting the drone open my mind to improvisation.
– memory work on Red Haired Boy and The Butterfly with strum machine backing and Fiddlehed backing track.
– finished with more scales and improvisation.
Need…[Read more] -

Hi Jason,
I joined and paid a year’s subscription a couple of days ago. Went through all of 1.1 lesson no problems. Today when I opened up the site again to do 1.2 I kept getting a message saying I don’t have access and to do the trial. Your method looks good and I’m keen to work through it consistently. Can you help?
Marg.
