Lovely Kate!
I want to be able to play the first phrase of each song when someone says the name of the song and know the key it’s played in too.
This is a great idea! -

Hi Kaz and Kate
Kaz I love Old Bar! I also remember lying on that beach after a night shift and falling asleep and yes woke up with a bad sunburn! We lived in Taree from 1981-3.
I have been a bit slack lately, cut my index finger and have had a while not playing. I did go to the Fiddlehed Improve your Tone yesterday. It helped me get back into…[Read more] -

Thanks very much for sharing, Tom. Nice song, is that a Fiddlehed song? Great video affects too. Very inspiring how you layered it. Thanks explaining how you did it.

Hi Kaz, Great to hear you’re playing everyday. I’m doing the practice challenge and aim to ‘fingerprint’ songs as Jason calls it, so I can play them from memory. I’m still learning how to play basic chords and should practice that more! I’ve also just discovered garage band and am having fun making some accompaniment tracks to play along with.…[Read more]

I’ve been inspired by many of you recording your own chord and harmony accompaniments and decided to have a go with Garage Band. Stayed up till 2am working out how to do it so it’s a bit rough. I tried to improvise a light accompaniment for the verse and chorus, and then do the Ketch Secour instrumental breaks. Gre…[Read more]

I recorded three videos using the built-in camera on my HP all-in-one Windows 10 PC, along with an attached USB microphone (Blue Yeti): first, playing the main melody; then a separate video playing chords while listening to the first video on headphones; then the third video, recording vocals while listening to the first video again. This way the…[Read more]

No formal online session today, so I assembled this arrangement with chords and vocals.
Fiddler’s Green is a place I hear tell,
Where fishermen go when they don’t go to hell…
Where the weather is fair and the dolphins do play
And the cold coast of Greenland is far, far away… -

That was fun! Light and tuneful. How about you record a chord back up for it then play it over the top?

What a great idea! Might have a crack at it myself – good way to practise chords, timing etc. Good on you!

Nice Kate. I like the swing you add to this. It sounds like a hornpipe 👍
Nice job on the high part too…Looks like you’re home from your travels…🚐

Thanks Kate, I imagine it would take a while to replace a string where you are! I was sitting in the kitchen, thought there was a tree falling close by then I thought it was thunder…it took me a while to realise it was an earthquake. 6.0 magnitude, bigger than the Newcastle one in 1989 and the epicentre was in Mansfield – 63 kms away!I was just…[Read more]

Sunset serenade with my sweetie (Louise, my wife), playing a rusty rendition of “Shenandoah” on a Newfoundland beach. Well, geologically speaking as a geek, western Newfoundland is the northern end of the Appalachian Mountains, so I guess it fits, sort of(?)
