Good goals. It’s something I still work on too.

I’m constantly trying to correct my posture while playing. I “crunch” my neck and then find myself hurting. Then my fiddle “tips” in my hands and under my chin. Harder to remember to correct posture when I’m in the zone!

Clenching the strings when I try to learn something new…which of course, makes it harder!!! Focusing on playing more relaxed…

I’ve had this bad habit of raising my first finger in the air when I play fourth finger (pinky). I had a good teacher as a kid named Mrs. Osborn who tried to break the habit without breaking my love of music. I still do this. I don’t think it held me back too much. But now I want to try to re-train my hand. Let’s see if this old dog can learn a…[Read more]

So wonderful, Marg! I’ve been out of the loop for a while so good to check out the forum and be reinspired! Lovely melody, lyrical and happy. Great work from the band too. A very fun way to play with pentatonic scales!

Singing to baby Veda. She’s got another 1-2 weeks before she comes home. In case you didn’t hear, we are adopting her. She was born addicted to opiates (methadone). She’s fighting the good fight, slowly weaning off of morphine which keeps her body stable, allowing her to eat and breathe normally.

@fiddl3hed Here’s a cool Irish reel called The Girl Who Broke My Heart. Gearing up for St. Paddy’s day ☘️. I love how the B part goes between G and F major. I played it with a G drone. With a lot of folk music, you can use a single drone as backup for the whole song. You can also use drones to practice. TIP: to play faster use less bow, less energy. PS: I teach this tune in the FiddleHed course (the fun way to learn fiddle online 🎻) . . . #fiddletok #violintok #firesidefiddle #learnfiddle #learnviolin #fiddle #violin #oldtime #oldtimefiddle #appalachianmusic #appalachianfiddle #irishfiddle #irishmusic #celticmusic #fiddlelesson #fiddlelessons #violinlesson #violinlessons #bluegrass #Irish #folk #folkmusic #mandolin #diegosumbrella

This lesson was long overdue for FiddleHed. Simply learning to focus on individual motions can 10x your playing quickly. It also can be fun and physically enjoyable.
Great! I’ve been learning tunes by playing them over and over again trying to build up “speed” and wondering why I’m getting worn out and frustrated—I will take heed with what you stated here. Thanks, r.
