That sounded great! Your violin sounded beautiful, why bother with an electric when you can get such good sound with what you’ve got? Loved your improve. What did you use as a backing track?

Nice! I think people notice what they themselves struggle with. Your bow angle is perfect throughout!

The first link didn’t work, but the Dropbox did. Well done, Diane, it’s a beautiful song and you paced it really well. It looks like you’ve learnt it by memory – very good, as I find it a tricky one to remember. Thanks for posting.

Hi Sally, I couldn’t see your video as it was no longer available on YouTube. You may have deleted it. If you’re having difficulty with posting, this is what I do:
1. Record yourself on video on your phone or ipad.
2. Go to YouTube (if you haven’t already got an account, just create a basic one – you don’t need a premium). When I open the YouTu…[Read more] -

That was exquisite, Jocelyn! Really beautiful playing – I didn’t notice any dodgy notes – I don’t know the song but it sounded very good to me. Thanks for sharing. I’d like to learn that one myself. It might be fun for our marimba group (who can only play in C)

You did a great job with that, Michael – good flow, groove and tone. The work you’ve been doing is paying off. Completely agree about the whack-a-mole nature of learning violin. I’ve been trying to learn vibrato and tone has gone out the window. But I think you will always see overall improvement if you compare yourself to a couple of months ago…[Read more]

Also was that strum machine that you used as a back up or another app? Also, if it is strum machine, how did you get the different strumming?

Well done. I think the most important thing I’ve learnt at Fiddlehed is to learn the songs by memory. It’s a gift that keeps giving, makes it easier to transpose songs into other keys and much better at recovering from missed notes. I never thought it would be possible, but so glad that I have a songbook in my head that I’ve been able to pull…[Read more]

Great stuff, Marg! Awesome variation and I love your transition to Swallow tail jig. I have downloaded the strum machine app I was so inspired. I want to develop a set of songs to play and thought it was a good way to practise. (But I can’t work out how to add the mandolin yet. I’ve ticked the box but it just sounds like guitar to me.) Love tha…[Read more]

I am ready to start paying the $39 per month to get access to FiddleHed lessons. I’d like to select the ones I think I need, and go at my own pace. i am 93 years old and used to play the violin. I can’t see how to do that form the information presented as my trial subscription runs out. It wants me to set up goals, records of accomplishments, and “I-don’t-know-what-else.”
Please let me know how I can do it in this way, if that is possible. I like your method of breaking the elements of violin playing into small pieces that can be practiced separately.

Hope you received a reply and are giving this a go Mr Crook! My understanding is you can indeed roam across the site and take your own approach with the direction if that suits you better. Wish you every good luck in returning to the violin, hope this endeavour brings you much pleasure.
