I sometimes find that a play along track helps me on a tune that I’m struggling with. Are the tunes you’re playing on the Fiddlehed site? There are some good play along tracks on the tune lessons pages if so. Alternatively you could maybe try playing along to a drone track to help your tone & then for more of a challenge try one of the beat backing tracks on the Beat Central pages. I found that one tune I really struggled with, Wellerman really improved for me trying to keep up with the Bodhran beat pattern & then I was able to speed it up from there. Sometimes I just try & playalong to tunes on YouTube as I can slow down the playback speed until I get it which helps too!

I warm up with scales practice G to A with different rhythm variations, in particular, I find pedal rhythm helps me get my ear if I don’t have a drone.
I always play through the scale of the tune I’m working on especially pentatonic.

Wow, would love to hear your version of Wildflowers. My husband is a huge Tom Petty fan & is always getting me playing along with his guitar & vocal renditions!
I started the month working up to Paddy’s working on Irish Rover, Wild Rover,Kesh Jig working on a version based on your rooftop sessions with DU from a few years back!
Also working on Auld Grey Cat to try and get a really clean separate sound of the notes to evoke a mooching cat! Just because I love the tune…& cats!
I started listening & playing with the new Jam Mixes on the site & got hooked on some new tunes: Sitting on Top of The World, When the Saints, Also, The Girl I left behind me from Jocelyn’s Hootenanny this week!
Btw loving the new time for Hootenanny, I managed to get to my first ever live one on UK time!

Love the sound of those hoedown with the double stops accents and the little pedal rhythm run at the end too. All sound very smooth and natural in the tune.

Aww thanks everyone! In response to Malcolm & Jocelyn, I started playing with no previous experience or musical knowledge, in early 2019. I’d always loved the sound of a fiddle on many songs & thought I’d love to be able to play. I spoke with a few fiddlers at that time & they all said the same thing,- play everyday! So that’s what I do, I play every day for at least 1 hour. I don’t read music too well but I love to listen to all kinds of music & then make up stuff to play along. This Fiddlehed site has taught me all I know and I love the learning, fun & support it gives.

Nicely played Marg! That sounds like a complicated tune with those string crossings too!

Yes, that figures! I found F pentatonic goes well with his version he just recorded for me to practice with.
