ParticipantGreat Job! Our group of 3 has talked about a video collaboration in the past, but it never happened. Maybe this is the prod that we need to get going.

ParticipantSo I did. I wasn’t aware who might have been there that day, but I’m glad someone picked it up. Your versions sounds really good already.
I think it’s a relatively easy tune to learn and it is beautiful. It has become one of my go-to tunes to start a practice session and if anyone is willing to listen!

ParticipantThanks for sharing that, Kevin! I discovered the same tune and its sad back story earlier this year, and since i cound not find any sheet music online, I had to figure it out by ear and learn it that way; likely same as you?
Eventually, I reached out to Kirstie Mclanaghan over facebook to thank her for writing it. She was happy to hear someone was working with it and learning from it (She is a fiddle teached in Edinburgh, so of course she would be!) She sent me her “dots” (sheet music), along with a couple of short “Fiddle-hed style” teaching videos, but with a sweet scottish accent. I can share those with you if you want, just to check your work. Though you seem to have it well in hand.
Also thanks to Jason for the comments. I can take those to heart as well!

ParticipantI added a couple of links in the Youtube description. If you click the “Watch on YouTube” link, you can see them in the description under the video.

ParticipantThanks. A agree totally with the need for more repitition, but at 7:30, I was already well over the 5:00 suggested in Jason’s email.
And sory about no comments. I find this forum site is often a bit flakey. I tryied to put links in my original post, but it wouldnt post them. Then I posted the video with just a single line of comment above and it worked. So I tried to post more information in a reply, but that wouldn’t post either. I’ll try again now.
The name of the song is “Come Out Ye Black and Tans”. If I cannnot post any links, you may have to search them out on Google.

ParticipantThanks for posting, Mary, and Congratulations on your first public performance! Seems like a very challenging piece going into the upper hand position(s?) and switching to a backup track part way through. Well done!

ParticipantI recorded three videos using the built-in camera on my HP all-in-one Windows 10 PC, along with an attached USB microphone (Blue Yeti): first, playing the main melody; then a separate video playing chords while listening to the first video on headphones; then the third video, recording vocals while listening to the first video again. This way the the original melody video also served as the timing track for the other two.
I stacked all three videos into a simple editing software I use, Photoshop Premiere Elements. Then I slid the second and third videos back and forth along the time line so they were all in sync with the first. Then I trimmed the lead-ins and endings so the were all the same length. The software allows me to fade and adjust the audio volumes in each video independently. Similarly, each video’s imagery can be faded in and out so you see different video at different times, while the mixed volume continues as set originally.
Then exported the project to an MP4 file and uploaded that to YouTube.
I don’t consider myself to have a good singing voice, but it does seem easier, when you hear yourself in the headphones as you sing and record.
In any case, if you can’t impress with singing and playing skills, at least the technology can be a pleasant distraction!!

ParticipantThank you @kate-kakadu and @cynhrossi for kind words. I find slow songs like those are a great break from the harder work of double stops, metronome and speed challenges!

ParticipantThanks Kate.
Fiddler’s Green is not on the Fiddlehed site, but it would be a great teaching tune either late beginner or early intermediate.
– Key of G major
– Fairly simple chord progression using G, C, D chords and one E minor
. E minor chord is (E-G-B). C chord is (C-E-G), so I used E-G double stop for both (G0-D1). Not sure if that is best choice, but sounds okay.
– 3/4 time
– Written with a lot of quarter notes, so there is a lot of opportunity to improvise your own ‘lilt’ as you go along
. e.g. play some bars with quarter notes and others with dotted-quarter–eighth–quarter swing, etc.I have the sheet music with chords and lyrics in PDF, but I don’t know how to attach it here. I’ll send you a private message with my email address. If you want, send me a note to my email and I’ll shoot over a copy for you.

ParticipantThanks, @jasonkleinberg. I used Adobe Premiere Elements…obviously not well (improperly placed video image of backup), but it has potential for next time if I can be a bit more careful.

ParticipantThank you, Eimear! The baby seal is my favourite as well, but the baby donkey and the hairy coo are close second and third.
Those songs and pics really make me want to hop over the pond again soon.

ParticipantThank you both Carolyns. I like the term “lonesome sound”. I would love to be playing those tunes at some of those lonesome beaches and cliffs included in the video.
The vid of me was the first take, so I let the occasional flub go. That left more time for adding slides. I use Adobe Premiere Elements for editing videos, so it was actually not too long of an effort. It was a fun project for a rainy afternoon!
